The technique is easy. Doing it consistently on a Tuesday when you are running late is the actual challenge.
The friction is preparation, not practice
The rinse takes about five minutes. Boiling water and waiting for it to cool takes twenty. That gap is where the habit dies.
So move the preparation to the night before. Boil your water in the evening, let it cool in a clean covered container, and in the morning it is waiting at roughly the right temperature. Boiled water stored covered is fine for 24 hours.
The single change that makes this stick: prepare tomorrow's water tonight. Everything else is detail.
A realistic morning sequence
- On waking — drink a glass of water, use the bathroom.
- Mix — one level 5 g scoop into 500 ml of your prepared lukewarm water. Stir until clear. 30 seconds.
- Rinse — half the pot through one nostril, half through the other. 3 minutes.
- Dry — bend forward, turn the head slowly side to side, blow gently one nostril at a time. 1 minute.
- Rinse the pot — and leave it upside down to air-dry. 30 seconds.
Empty stomach, before breakfast and before coffee. If you practise yoga, this goes before asana.
Making it survive week two
- Start at two or three times a week. Daily from day one is how people end up with a dry, irritated nose by Thursday and quit by Friday.
- Anchor it to something you already do. Immediately after brushing your teeth is the easiest anchor, because the location and timing are already fixed.
- Keep everything in one place. Pot, jar and scoop together. Hunting for the scoop is enough friction to skip a day.
- Do not chase a streak. Missing a day is not failure. Missing a week and then feeling too guilty to restart is the actual failure mode.
- Skip it when you should. Fully blocked nose, ear infection, or feeling genuinely unwell — leave it. The habit is not more important than the sensible precautions.

The first rinse gives an immediate, obvious clearing. That fades, and around week two people often think it has stopped working.
It has not. What changes is that the baseline shifts — you stop noticing congestion because there is less of it to notice. The benefit becomes an absence rather than an event, which is a much quieter thing to observe.
